Every bit of this comment is making my heart warm <3

Which doesn’t mean much. Yeah, great, Ohio named counties/cities/roads after Native tribes or languages. But in the process of claiming the land and naming these cities, counties, etc, the majority of Ohio’s indigenous peoples were exterminated or displaced to places like Oklahoma.

Blegh. #StopPanderingToOldWhiteMen2016

Wow, and look how the tables turn when the “allies” get their feelings hurt. Go ahead, write a vindictive tale to get back at the “blowhard” Native who told you off.

Go ahead, be dismissive and belittling. And go ahead and try to paint it as “cross-cultural art activities.” What you’ve been talking about regarding your “art” is in no way “cross-cultural,” but go ahead and assuage your conscience by using euphemisms.

I mean, go ahead and think I’m rude. I don’t really give a fuck. I’m not the one seeking your approval, but you seem to be seeking mine, or other indigenous people’s approval. You certainly don’t have mine. And good luck getting the others.

Hahahahaha. Wow. The pompous entitlement in that. You’re telling me, an indigenous person, that you will do more for my culture than I will? Nice try, keep dreaming.

Good luck being an consumptive, appropriative asshole. You can keep trying to justify what you do as an artist, but you’re just imposing yourself on other people’s cultures for you’re own selfish benefit. Keep trying to tell yourself otherwise.

Yeah, you can keep justifying this as daring and bold however you want, but no. Native culture is not for you, we owe you nothing, and we do not owe you access or approval.

Hahahaha. Artists are entitled to nothing. You are not entitled to my culture.

This reeks of entitlement. Wow.

Again, one friend and 500 poll takers, only a fraction of which identify with a specific tribe, and all of whom are self-identified. This is a terrible poll with crappy methodology.

Because if you’re not part of the group, then you generally don’t have the context of what it’s like to be that group and are unqualified to discuss the importance of things.

Why do non-Natives get to tell Natives what should be priorities over other issues? Why do you assume that this issue goes to the bottom of whatever triage list you are imagining?

How is this a decent survey?

Native here.

You don’t have to be 18 to graduate high school... I was 17 until a month or so into my freshman year of college.

I’m 26 and class of 2007. I think Australia has a different school timeline, some other commentator mentioned that they don’t have kindergarten, so they start 1st grade at 5 or so. and also some folks are have earlier birthdays and are older than others in their class, and other folks have late birthdays are are

Eh, I don’t buy the “damned if you do/don’t” argument here.

“Adoption and appropriation are here to stay.”
