I’d add that B5 is special above and beyond its flaws in execution, because having a story to tell and telling it was, and is, such a rare thing on television. Thinking back to the mid-2000s, which was arguably the peak of science fiction on TV, I struggle to name even a single show of the era which was able to do the

I’ve always thought that B5 would benefit from the “Special Edition Cloud City” treatment. It was by far a superior story to DS9 (which I love so I’m not playing favorites). But just imagine Babylon 5 with the same or better visual effects instead of the cheap sets and marginal CGI...However, until that day comes.

Thank J. Michael Straczynski

Season 4 of Enterprise is the show it always should have been. But by then it was too late.

I think the best way to utilize Tpol would have been to subvert the actor’s beauty/sex appeal by doing everything possible to make her androgynous and counter-to modern ideas of sexuality and gender expression. Star Trek has always pushed the boundaries of current social mores. Network execs and ratings metrics are a

Why does God need a starship when he has a dick?

As a Native American myself, growing up, I never really thought of Chakotay as a divisive character. I mean, some of the “rituals” and “ceremonies” he did is what I think many other Native Americans disagreed with because it comes off as Pan-Indianism and Hokey.

But, I say it’s science fiction, and we certainly cannot

Im in the middle of a Voyager rewatch. Chakotay’s main characteristic is that he is easily tricked (Tuvok being Starfleet and Seska being Cardassian while they were under his “command”) , and he knows it well enough to be paranoid about being tricked later on, but still gets tricked anyways. I call him Trickotay. He

I love this comment, but come on, you people have to get over the theme song! It was weird at first, but I grew to love it more than any of the others, because fuck that orchestral wankery. I even really hate Rod Stewart’s voice, and I still love the hopefulness embodied in the Enterprise intro.

My jaw dropped at how they handled Chakotay when I rewatched Voyager’s pilot a while back. At one point, Paris said something like, “You’re an Indian, why don’t you turn into a bird and fly us out of this shaft.” WTF?!

Kira Nerys is the reason I got into Star Trek. I caught the episode ‘Progress’ late at night - not even an action episode, but a quiet two-hander about Kira convincing an old man to leave his home - and Nana Visitor was so compelling that I was enthralled. The second next episode was ‘Duet’, a huge Kira showcase

To this day, I feel bad for Robert Beltran. When he signed on, he was a young character actor with a lot of spark and hope. And on paper, Chakotay had so much interesting going for him. Just for example, before leaving Starfleet for the Maquis, he taught advanced combat tactics at the Academy. It would have added

It’s a shame Deep Space Nine does better than a lot of later Sci-Fi shows when it comes to female characters. All of them got well-rounded history and stories as opposed to the largely titillation parts you increasingly saw in other shows.

Why is it called “Discovery”? Cause “AXANAR” was taken. BOOMSHAKALAKA!

Is it even legal to be that high? ;)

I think people want the show to focus on the captain, though. The ships operate through the captain. The captain is the hub of everything going on. Focusing on someone else really limits the perspective we get.

I’m shouting because after reading your comments it’s hard not to shout. Like here where you ignore half of my post and still don’t explain your point of view in a non trollish way.

I’m often annoyed at the distinction between ebooks and print books. Are we supposed to look down on one? Never made sense.

Counterpoint - large-scale electricity generation is something that can and is being done more with renewable resources and less burning things. Also that electricity generation would likely happen anyway given how electricity generation works.

You are stupid. The comparison is obvious: what’s on the road today? Solar cars? Wind cars? No. electrics and ICEs. Ackbar is saying that of the two, electrics are cleaner. You started this whole thing by complaining that people now think electric cars are eco friendly; given the current options, they _are_ the eco
