Conversely, at a birthday party for my brother, a friend gave him one of the O’Reilly-authored books as a gift. My brother and I aren’t particularly close; as a result, I didn’t know much about his world views. What I did know is that we were both raised by the same uber-liberal parents, and I had no reason to think

If that were my kid, that’d be my proudest moment. I think I’d shed a tear.

Years ago, my Fox News-watching dad came over for a visit and gave my son Bill O’Reilly’s book for teenagers. My son said “Thanks Grandpa” and after my folks went home, my kid tossed the book in the garbage. He was 14.

I get where FTC is going with this but I think the bigger problem is “influencers” who are sent things for free then rave about them aren’t technically considered sponsored and they don’t always disclose that they got things for free clearly. They just leave vague sounding disclosures saying some items in the video

The fact that California not only is majority non-white but also has a larger percentage of mixed-race individuals than any state except Hawaii undoubtedly contributes to the hatred so many conservatives have for the state.

Damn Old timer, you’ve seen some shit.

To be fair, part of the issue might not be so much that people are unaware that celebrities endorse things, but just how popular one needs to be to be considered for endorsements.

Just the next iteration of infomercials. In fact, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if a lot of such Youtube content were being produced by, say, Guthy-Renker (the big daddy of late night tv marketing).

YouTubers are a bigger concern because these internet personalities present themselves as ordinary people. Entire video categories are essentially YouTubers shilling products. Obvious examples include unboxing videos and kids playing with toys.

Hawaii’s statehood was delayed for a number of years by Southern conservatives who were appalled at the prevalence of miscegenation there, most notably Sam Rayburn. You think Jefferson Beauregard Sessions thinks that Hawaii is really part of the United States? When he was growing up it was nothing but a military

My problem with the show is the fact that it never once discusses mental health.

This man’s career is not even close to being ruined. He’ll find a job by the end of this school year/mid summer as faculty/dean at a second tier law school that is desperate for “name brand” faculty. The $97,000 he gets for his sabbatical year is just a little goodbye bonus. My husband consults for universities on

Also, that attitude completely removes any responsibility from the perpetrator. HE IS RESPONSIBLE. HE RUINED HIS OWN FUCKING CAREER.

Omg I am so fucking sick of hearing “reporting/punishing harassment (or assault) would ruin his career/life/prospects,”

it’s not the reporting of shitty behaviour that ruins career prospects, it’s the actual shitty behaviour that ruins career prospects.

They DESERVE to have their lives ruined! Because apparently nothing else will stop these toadbeasts from just grabbing at women like they’re spoiled ten year olds who managed to get into the Brach’s Candy display and start sticking their gross hands in the bins.

I always wondered how the money aspect worked for victims of sexual assault, because none of them seem to be swimming in the dough post accusal. Trump’s accusers were rewarded with having him as their president. Cosby’s accusers got...what? A(n admittadly great) magazine cover for ‘awareness’ sake? There’s a trial

I agree.

I have friends who teach at Berkeley. The administration is MUCH more conservative the surrounding city and the legacy of student protest would suggest. And that has always been true.

It’s all fine, I am pretty sure the woman who claimed the harassment is swimming in a pool full of gold coins because all women are liars who want to accuse sweet innocent men just for the money.
