    @tw@t: Think automotive design; the body of the car is designed to crumple, absorb, and dissipate the energy from the impact, instead of transferring it to the cab and the passengers.

    @tw@t: This would be good for prevention of scratches as well as shaving off a few grams, but outside of vanity, it would provide worse impact resistance because of the energy transfer.
