I read your post and nowhere does it explain why US companies such as Apple, Disney, McDonald's, Microsoft (Windows, Office), Yahoo! (in Japan, Yahoo! is still the dominant "search" engine-slash-portal) are more successful than their Japanese counterparts. It doesn't explain the popularity of US made movies and TV

TLDR: Japanese people don't like western products. But it's more complicated than that.

With the notable exception of the N64 and the Xbox 360(*), Japanese always use the English for numerals in console / gadgets / movie titles.

My bad. I didn't know that PS Vita TV had the apps functionality of the original PS Vita.

I don't think that Vita TV is a "TV box" at all; it's basically a micro-console that plugs into your TV and can run Vita games or stream games from your PS4.

Nintendo really should make a controller for iOS and then release games on iPhone and iPad. And to avoid paying 30% royalties to Apple, simply release your games as "toys" like Angry Birds Star Wars or Disney Infinity telepod sets, and BOOM, instant money hats.

I am only comparing sales on the same period; after 130 weeks on the market, the DS had sold 43 million units, while the 3DS only sold 32 million units. So the 3DS is already selling 25% less units than its predecessor. And do we really want to compare the Wii U sales with any other console? It's selling less than the

As businesses, Nintendo are not even in the same league as the others; Sony has about twice the market cap, and MS is at least 10 times that. If Sony and Microsoft ever get out of the gaming business, it will happen *after* Nintendo goes bankrupt.

Nintendo is selling way less hardware this time around with the Wii U and 3Ds, than with the Wii and DS. Or NGC and GBA. Or N64 and GBC. Also, Nintendo only has its gaming business.

Except that the DS has reached its end of life (it only sells a few thousand units monthly worldwide), and that new software for the platform is extremely rare (a couple titles per month, if that); it used to be a cash cow, but today it's almost completely irrelevant. What about the 3DS then? Well, after 130 weeks on

If we focus only on revenue and units sold, the best sellers are predominantly of the Angry Birds kind, i.e. simple, low-budget-low-tech games.

One question...WHY would they release THEIR games on someone elses hardware at a cost? They would have to pay them for the chance to do this.

Easy: avoid websites that post spoilers for 3 days OR import the game and get it earlier.

But it's Sega Japan that calls the shots on what Sega America does.

The guys that are currently at the head of Nintendo don't understand Metroid. That's the reason they outsourced the Prime trilogy to an US developer and why the Japanese developed "Other M" sucked so much.

Maybe not Mario or Metroid, but what about Pokemon? Animal Crossing? Fire Emblem? Golden Sun? Pikmin? These games would be perfect for high-powered touchscreen devices like the iPhone or high-end Android handsets. Nintendo could be releasing games both on their own handhelds and on smartphones, but they're simply too

Sure, but who's to say that Robocop isn't responsible for it?

"I have been saying this for some time, but customers are not interested in grand games with higher-quality graphics and sound and epic stories. Only people who do not know the videogame business would advocate the release of next-generation machines when people are not interested in cutting-edge technologies."

It's Capcom though, what did you expect?

According to Wikipedia, the Costa Concordia cost US$570 million to build, so yeah.
