The Democratic Party, religious leaders, and civil authorities do not much back on this narrative enough. I know it has been developing slowly, but still, it’s here now. Push back, people, and stand up to anybody, anywhere, who conflates the two. I love this country and all its people, and I detest Donald Trump.

I was disappointed but no longer surprised that no news outlets scanned the crowd and showed how few people were there. They need to do this every time. Every time.

I’m pretty sure that once the Democratic nominee is within sight, Trump will start referring to all Democrats as traitors.

I wish fascists would nut up and just say what they fucking mean. Everything has to be phrased like it’s a goddamn puzzle. It’s exhausting.

Yes and this is really important - to them it’s not about being American or loving America, it’s about being Republican and living Trump because Democrats are an enemy from within. Similarly, when they want to drain the swamp, they mean Democrats. They don't mean corrupt officials.

Pelosi has acted shamefully toward the Squad, and she needs to answer for that, but I can’t abide blaming her for this. It’s much bigger than her. By acting like this is all her fault we are letting Republicans and Trump off the hook and they need full ownership of this. Trump telling these women to go “back” was not

The Republican party as a whole is in a difficult position. It’s clear that Trump is a detriment to their continued control of the government

Still waiting on his fantastic healthcare plan. Isn’t it still coming out in about a week like he said three years ago?

I get you.

Now playing

The Repugnican organization (not a party) is a business...a corporation.

“Don't you understand what you've done? Now I've got to go demand that a reporter tell me his ethnicity."

Part of the Dems message about Trump needs to be: “When the president disparages these members of Congress as being anti-American, he’s also disparaging the voters who put them into office. He feels that anyone who is not with him is against him and that is the mark of a wanna-be dictator. What’s more un-American than

Just remember, folks, when Trump says “patriots” he means “people who are supporters of Donald Trump”. In his mind, you don’t love the country if you don’t love him.

Miller also gave his own spin, which you can read at Politico. It’s even worse than any of this, he’s quite honestly trying to spin this as ‘the racists are being bullied!’

Agreed. My favorite part was Kellyanne Conway having to explain to him why the chant was bad.

Given standardized interview obfuscation (e.g. asked a question you don’t want to answer or can’t answer shout over the interviewer a bunch of rapidly repeated whataboutism), wouldn’t it be edifying for the viewers if there was a ‘lower third’ screen which contained the current position on the interview deflection

Many of these Republicans are up for re-election soon and they have to think about how this racism will speak to their voters and respond accordingly

Trump defended himself ... He wanted to elevate the congresswomen, as he had previously discussed with aides. The Democratic lawmakers ... were good foils, he had told his advisers... The president said he thought he was interjecting himself into Democratic Party politics in a good way.

Yet his supporters knew exactly what message Trump was sending when he tweeted that message.

The Republican party as a whole is in a difficult position. It’s clear that Trump is a detriment to their continued control of the government, but at the same time he commands the loyalty of a significant fraction of the base voters of the Republican party. These are people who, as Trump himself so inelegantly put it,
