I don’t know if it falls under the heading of wishful thinking or simple conviction but I’m almost certain that’s broadly accurate...for the sake of hyperbole I’d drink to the sentiment that an ounce of genuine self-awareness would be a terminal dose in his case but I think the truth is probably more complicated...

I’m a big fan of his Sandman comics (& generally his work in that medium) but I found when he moved to prose that what came off as a deft touch in comics seemed strangely heavy handed in prose...
