Not really, or at least not in a general sense. Some folks will do them for labor-of-love type projects, but IME most people who are tinkering about with carbureted bikes will swap to other carbs rather than going to EFI.
I remember when these came out: their pejorative nickname was “Pathetic Coast”.
Having not been alive during the 1980s, I’ve had to rely on hearsay from others as to what that whole situation was like. It appears to have been wild, an era where anyone could try to do anything because it’s the ‘80s.

Armed with a chemical combination of Goo Gone, Simple Green, and WD-40, plus a spate of blue shop towels, a microfiber towel, the aforementioned scraping tool, and a couple hours worth of elbow grease, I managed to get all of that adhesive off of the car.
