Sometimes you’re blinded by your own code. You’ve looked at it over a hundred times and don’t see anything wrong. One fresh set of eyes on it and BAM, you see the problem and solution in one simple fix.

It would take half an hour to notice those if you knew exactly where to look. A game like this is millions of lines of code. It’s less of a needle in a haystack and more of a grain of sand in the ocean. The list dedupe in lieu of a hashmap issue is something you should be able to see, although that doesn’t scream…

It’s more likely a case where they knew it took a long time to load, they knew why it took a long time to load, but they were under the impression that whatever the game was doing had to be done. It’s entirely possible the guy was somehow able to convince and/or prove to them that what they were doing was unnecessary.…

If the devs took a look at the code meaning to fix it then maybe yeah, but they most likely all had other stuff to do. The average coder at a major doesn’t come to work every day with nothing to do. There’s a schedule and they work to complete what’s scheduled.

I mean... I agree with you, sometimes you miss stuff. But the main issues that made the loading so slow were really basic (and obvious) things. I mean, any dev taking half an hour to look at code should notice those. And I would assume that someone at R* at some point said: hey, it does take an awful long time to…

Well thank goodness for that deal. My AA rechargeables last wayyy longer than my DS4 internal battery, and when they run out they can be easily swapped rather than having to find a super long cable or suspend gaming while I charge the controller.
