I wish I would have laughed roughly 10% as long as I actually did.

I hope that this is an isolated incident, and not something that becomes poutine.

They already scrapped DA4 once because EA told them it didn’t have enough “live features”, which would translate into sustained revenue. As someone who absolutely adores dragon age, I’ve very worried that *IF* we get a DA4, it will be very far from the artists’ vision.
You take that back, I am honestly angry that Anthem turned out to be so disappointing because I am heavily invested in the Dragon Age universe, and am very much worried that Dragon Age 4 is dead because of this horror show...
What saddened me the most with DAI was the decision to not do the DLCs and seemingly shutting down the sequel production. Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand why they decided on that as the game wasn’t, from what I understood, a commercial success, but it still stung as I do think there were a lot of really…
For all we know, Anthem’s six years of development could’ve been the same as Andromeda’s five years of development.
There's no need to retcon. Just follow through on indoctrination theory and make Shepard the main antagonist at the center of a Reaper.
I am right there with you. If I get 40-80 hrs out of a game and enjoy the experience, then how is that a bad thing?
At this point I’ve sort of started to wonder if I should just start ignoring both reviewers and gamers, as I never seem to agree with either group anymore and I’m too old to care about who enjoys a thing other than me and some friends.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: all of these reviews make me feel guilty for enjoying Anthem.
They’re already working on Dragon Age 4, DAI made all the money and has things perfectly set up for a sequel, no need to try to make another venture into the Mass Effect space work quite yet.
If BioWare survives this, I think the only thing EA lets them do is a Mass Effect 4. Go back to the well and make us some money, essentially.
In this case I think the CEO should have a more detailed explanation as to why these layoffs have to happen.
A friend of mine was a victim of the layoffs. He worked on the website. Blizzard was the company he always wanted to work for, and he wanted to stay there until retirement. He’s absolutely gutted.
Hate to sound like an ass, but as someone who has been laid off in a similar fashion numerous times, this is unfortunately how corporate America works. NO job is safe. Always make the assumption that on any given day you could lose your job. Even if you make the company tons of money, are seen as important, or…
That ~800 number only reflects perm staff. Many dev-ops groups like QA and support are almost entirely staffed through temping agencies. Even senior testers who’ve been at a publisher for years are typically considered “temps”. If QA was one of the main departments hit with cuts, there were probably 10 “temps” cut for…
A lot of the callous “this is how business/Capitalism works” responses to this don’t at all consider the situation these real life people who are laid off end up being put into.
Super depressing but once again Jason, fantastic article with lots of great information presented in an easy to read article.
The sad part is that, on paper, the Activision-Blizzard partnership is a good one. Activision rakes in consistent money which can be used to fund Blizzard’s long-term development, games which have the potential to create extreme profits. And sure, Blizz has been in a rut with only expansions to WoW and Hearthstone and…
