Yes, just like it was intended to. Fiat should recognize the people who need an automatic in the Abarth aren't buying it for the performance; They should just slap the Abarth's body kit on a regular 500 and call it Abarth Sport a la BMW and M-Sport.
The less power a car has, the more it needs a proper manual 'box to extract every bit of performance out of it. You can get away with an automatic on an AMG 'cuz 500+ horsepowers and torques
