Why controller designers don't do a flip-cover controller, like the GBA SP or the NDS?

I use a 46" LED 3D as my monitor/entertainment center @1920x1024 screen res, most of the programs uses a 1280x720 as default, even in lifehacker i have almost half the screen unused. So, the used space of the vertical bar is minimal. Screenshot to show the vertical unused space:

I come from the 4:3 era, so it's natural to me to desire more vertical view, about the bar, i use it to the right (->) the clock & the notifications are in the same place, it's just a little time to get used to it.

Move the task bar from the bottom to the right! most of the webpages scrolls vertically, you decrease the need to scroll anything due the extra view (even tiny) and still have access to the taskbar :)
