You are scaring the hell out of me with that talk! I think I'll have to make a list of questions and things before going, so thanks for the suggestions. I have been recommended a hairdresser...by my mother. But he's gay, black, and wears his hair in a blonde mohawk so...edgy, I guess?

Hmm, thanks for the links, and the advice about going somewhere cheaper afterwards. And yeah, I get the impression a lot of people feel that way about ultra-long hair. The advice I was given was that pretty much anything else gives an impression of actually making an effort with your appearance. Waist-length gives the

More problematic, but I know here in the UK they do too, but the kitchen/backroom staff still get paid more. So the servers still get minimum wage, but others get more because there is an expectation that servers get tips. Personally I don't tip that much (about 10% or less usually), and wouldn't fault people for not

*googles chignon* Looks lovely, but not for me!

No afro for me, but I have been tempted by that strategy. Unfortunately I have kindof a round face and weak jawline, so some facial hair is a must (I have at least worked that out for myself).

I just looked up what that was and am totally jealous. I think I might have to go putter around in Unity and pretend I'm a game developer. Good luck with it!

Well supposedly in the US servers make less than minimum wage, or at least less than their colleagues, because they're expected to make 15%. They're also taxed as if they make that 15%, whether they do or not. So I remember at least one person who worked as a waiter saying that if you don't tip you are actually costing

Help, this hapless nerd needs more dating advice!

Maybe, but he worked it out due to the content of my posts, not by knowing my username, so now I'm going to be paranoid every time I post that it will happen again. Le sigh.

Oh, when you said no one's feelings would get hurt I though you were talking about everyone, not just those specific men.

What makes you think no one's feelings are going to be hurt? I remember hearing girls in my year at high-school and university talk about how "there's no hot guys in our year!" or be negative about the appearances of guys and it made me feel like shit. Even some of the talk here on Jezebel about how hot Jon Hamm/Ryan

I personally find it very helpful when people post personal stories contradicting studies like this, because they give more hope that I too will be an exception. If you don't need that then good for you, but some of us do. I don't take these anecdotes as attempts to invalidate the study, but as another example of

Only 29% according to the linked page, but yeah.

It's the equivalent of being pleased that gay men can now join the military when you are anti-war, which is perfectly reasonable in my mind.

Hah! I am still overjoyed by the memory of my mum becoming so frustrated that she threw down the mouse and it bounced into her cup of coffee.

Are you saying you threw out the stuff that belonged to your partner or stuff from your own past relationships? The latter seems fine, the former...not so much.

No. You have to choose.

This is interesting. I remember various people on Jezebel talking about how the street harassment in Italy and other countries was just "different", but not being able to explain why. This "not expecting a response" could be part of it I suppose.

Mine too (when I had one) but other people aren't there for us to deal with our issues. They can't be collateral damage. Also asking for someone's phone number isn't the same as harassment.

"Marge, I swear, I never thought you'd find out!"
