ohhh it still worked, yeah mine did that on a regular basis long before it died, the fan speeds up due to heat buildup(sensors), and I worked it out that was down to the cheap thermal paste they used not dispersing the heat from the chip to the heatsink properly.

wow, fan broke? that had to have had a bearing missing or a faulty brush from the production line, when my launch model YLOD'd in 2010 I took it appart and repaired it, the first thing i noticed how bloody huge the fan was, its like this industrial monster, its no wonder it only needed one fan.
