Well, from what we've seen so far, in the Gizmodo, Wired and Verge hands-on videos, it definitely seems like it has the smarts to discern between a registered user in the room in front of it speaking, and one who isn't :)

Sadly, for moms, it won't work that way :) The Kinect will detect that your mouth is not open and the voice is not coming from your direction, so it will ignore the command.
