Exactly. That's why AA doesn't reference a "higher power," hold meetings in churches, have prayer sessions, use the 12 Steps that reference "God" eight times, disavow AA chapters that practice atheism, or get identified as a religious based treatment program by a federal appeals court.

I got to see various slices of dozens of meetings. I also got to witness the conversations AA members had before and after meetings, at the beginning of treatment and ongoing. However, I had many lengthy conversations with the AA group leader, a staff member at the non-profit organization.

I had a partner who needed alcohol in order to "enjoy" sex. When she was sober, she was completely inhibited in bed. She couldn't initiate, she couldn't relax and enjoy, she couldn't be creative, and she couldn't orgasm. But as soon as you got a bottle of wine into her, she was go for liftoff.
