Well the SimCity franchise has always been a single-player series and the article we're commenting on says "the game's region features can run without an Internet connection, too" so really having to be online at all seems pointless now.

The thing with Wow/LoL/TF2 is that those games are exclusively multiplayer games so a constant online connection is required for those games. If SimCity is playable offline than the whole always-online requirement becomes unnecessary bullshit.
