I was also going to say I’m confused by this statement. Maybe he just means that Simmons isn’t his normal clean-shaven self and it’s a sign of stress? That’s my only guess.

For anyone who’s interested, The Trials of Henry Kissinger is a great documentary. It paints a portrait of a man who is probably literally the devil, and just like the devil you can’t help but admire his brilliance. Kissinger is waaaaay too smart for that Icarus reference not to be shade.

That is absolutely shade. (You could take it all the way to Shade Court, but I think Judge Brown would concur.)

I read the title of this post and was like “Oh no, another Samantha Brick!”

Actually, Putin has denounced this as “an attack on a sovereign nation.”

Back in my day it was boots and pants music. I’m old, though, and this is, like, two or three dominant genres ago. The one after this was “waaawaawaawaawaawaawummmm”

Good article. For anyone who wants to read more about hippie-era cooptation by advertisers, check out The Conquest of Cool, by Thomas Frank.

Question (because I can’t be bothered to do the necessary google-vestigating): has any ANTM winner actually risen to supermodel ranks? Because I watched two seasons and it occurred to me that many of the contestants were either older than runway models typically are at the beginning of their careers, or had slightly

Now playing

Thank you. God, so many philistines in this thread.

Yeah, I’m Canadian and it makes me really mad when I hear American conservatives claim that everyone here hates our socialized health care system(s) and it doesn’t work. Bull-fucking-shit, there’s a reason we still have socialized medicine despite a lot of lobbying from private insurance companies: many people rely on

Sure does. People with ALS usually don’t live long after they’re diagnosed though, even with excellent health care. :(

I wonder that too. I also wonder whether doctors have studied him (or other people like him, if they’re out there) to see whether he has some sort of protective factor that’s allowed him to live so long with a usually very deadly disease.

Stephen Hawking is 75 years old. At age 21, he was told he had about two years to live. No point to this except that every time I see his name I remember how old he is and think “man that guy is tenacious.”

yup

I’m going to be legit mad if that plot thread isn’t tied up. I know Girls often (deliberately I’m sure) doesn’t let the other shoe drop, but come on. That was the big cliffhanger at the end of last season. Yes, I care way too much.

WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO CAROLINE’S BABY

Yes, thank you. As I mentioned in another comment, this isn’t the kind of equality I was hoping for, but it does serve as evidence against the “men are pigs/women are emotionally mature and empathetic” stereotype (which ultimately undermines women’s equality, and which I notice is frequently perpetuated by men

Let me be clear: this is not the kind of equality I want. But when this kind of thing happens, it’s evidence against the “men are pigs/women are emotionally mature and empathetic” stereotype, which (as a woman) really grates on me.

I wish I could remember where I read this, but someone who was sent to one of those camps joked dryly that you leave those things more gay than you were when you arrived.

Isn’t that the slimeweb stuff from Stranger Things?
