I wouldn’t fret over not knowing the property line if you have a general idea where it is. It only becomes an issue if someone is abusing where the potential line may be. If you really want to know you can hire a surveyor but that will cost you hundreds of dollars.

My wife and I are young-ish (less than 35), we have 2 small boys and we owe 24 more years on our house. Our life insurance coverage right now will cover the house and about $250k more. Did the previous owners pull permits for the renovations? That’s usually when the taxing jurisdiction finds out about improvements and they will adjust taxes accordingly. Of course! The second born’s are always eager to grow up and keep up with their older siblings. Going through that now; my 2 year old is skipping all the old toys we kept for him and going after the 5 year old’s toys. You can imagine how well that goes over with the 5 year old.
