You don’t get to be a person unless you’re a main character. All other characters are drawn in crayon, subordinate to the punchline, or are punchlines themselves.

I do too. But then I find this podcast compelling, and want to listen to it. I feel like I’m doing something wrong, reallly.

I may be equally out of touch, so I don’t know, but you bring up an important point.

Makeup does not ‘correct’ anything. My natural looks are not an error. Going without makeup is not letting my ‘wrong’ hang out. The dark circles under my eyes, however, are worth concealing. Once in awhile. When I feel like it.

Yes. 1000% this. I thought Willam was dead on.
I also feel like the podcaster is overstating his friendship with Richard, as he’s using it to recontextualize his stalking as concern.

Serial hit upon a very compelling podcast format. Finding Richard is successfully using it as a template. I think that’s pretty much what it is, for me.

I very much agree with you on that. I started to write a long thing explaining why, but I have to measure that against whether I’m feeling strong enough to be savaged by packs of internet wolves commenters. I am afraid of this bunch here.

...tenderize your tenderloins

Millennials to Buzzfeed: “What’s bar soap?”

“Best trick, bar none” = carve the bar to look like a bride of jesus.

...you’re welcome, fellas.

I’ve worked for nonprofits that solicit donations and am very familiar with the regulations in question.

Each state in which you solicit requires that you register with them. In most places, annually. Almost every state has their own form, requires documentation (often going beyond the 990 tax form and annual report),

Who are the people commenting on this story?
Can Jezebel absorb the massive influx of Gawker refugees?
Their home may have been torn apart and legally dismantled, and I feel for them, but their culture is very different and I don’t know if we’re prepared to deal with their needs and values...

There are good things about Portlandia, but I’m not going to try and justify their request to take the sign down.

In a show that’s very of-the-moment comedy that I think will quickly go stale, I feel like if I rewatch it in 10 years, I’ll at least be a little bit proud of who we were in 2016.

...I hate you.

‘Sense’ is another word for ‘conclusions fueled by bias/prejudice’. It’s not data driven, I feel I don’t know enough. I don’t talk to enough people to get a sense of things. (The internet doesn’t count, as we’re all dedicated to being the absolute worst on message boards). That sort of leaves me suspended between

I do not understand this at all. It’d make as much sense to maintain that ‘pumpkin’ is just an affectionate nickname for any old ingredient they choose to include, and the USDA is cool with it.

That’s probably the most compelling headline I’ve ever read. I’m feeling this hard.

This is maybe just a fogey-style question, but--I do wonder how many people out there value the idea of behaving honorably, versus getting over on people. I assume it’s people in the latter camp who are “yea Trump!”

Almost guilty of that same thing. I have had Allison on loop, but--no roommate at the time.

I used to torture my now-ex with ‘Me No’ by Clem Snide. I loved the song, but it went into even heavier rotation when we were on the outs.
