This. This is a business decision that they are large enough and leaner than competitors that other won’t be able to afford this and will be out of business. Amazon is betting they can afford to pay this with the added business they get from others going out of business.

Sounds pretty similar to other union stories I’ve heard from people in unions, worked in union shops, pro-union, and anti-union. I’ve had similar experiences bringing servers into data centers in Chicago. Once it hit the loading dock, I wasn’t allowed to touch the equipment until it reached my company’s cage. I had to

It’s what I would’ve done in that situation. Just have to remember to remind the New Guy about it before he realizes that none of the case panels are actually secure when the case slips out and falls to the floor.

So your experience with shitty unions was an 8 month gig, 23 years ago?

Why are unions in the USA so shitty? What went wrong? Why is there so much protectionism and ‘you didn’t contribute so you can go fuck yourself’?
Over here, everyone who works in a certain field (construction, retail etc) gets the same rights that have been bargained for by the union for that specific field, whether

I am an engineer in the automated equipment business. When working at a UAW auto plant you run into the same issue... If you use a tool for ANYTHING, even just opening the door of a control panel risk a grievance. But try to find someone to do it for you especially if they know what I do (I'm a job killer!)... And

Most computer screws will also work with a hex bit. Did the union have a monopoly on those as well? Use a butter knife? Leave everything finger-tight?

Similar situation here.

We had to call union workers to move items from my old cube to my new cube 10 feet away because I was not allowed to move them myself.

A fun idea, but even the best laser optics on earth would have too much spread (plus atmospheric disturbance) over that distance to get any useful energy to the rover.

A friend just went through that. So, I don’t think it’s lethal enough. Let’s go with pancreatic.

His lawyers, to their credit, are doing this work Pro-bono I remember reading.

The article says he does have pro bono lawyers. Unclear if that was just to get the ball rolling and he’ll have to pay now that he has some funds set aside.

Yes... No... Maybe...

It’s like the people who “remember” their “past lives” were always king-this or princess-that, never just some faceless peasant who shoveled shit for a living.

The answer to that is a two-parter:
