This made my Monday brighter. You keep on keepin' on! Update us as you accumulate cats.
i'm certainly going to think of it that way. **firmly readjusts tin hat**
We had a similar experience. My husband and I both went to a dreadful high school. When I went to university my skills were so poor I had to redo most of my first year. My husband is a gifted molecular biologist. He failed chemistry and because of that one grade, he didn't get into medical school to do his MD/PhD…
Well-said. You can't blame parents for not wanting their kids to struggle like they did. My story was opposite from yours. I also grew up in the Philadelphia area. My parents worked like slaves (they each had two jobs at times) to put me and my two siblings through private school. We didn't own our house. We…
I'm all for knocking the rich, and have my pitchfork/torches ready for when we finally get around to storming the castle gates, but this article is disingenuous, circle-jerk trash talking of the lowest order. If writing a check was all it took to be a good parent, more rich kids would be useful citizens (as opposed to…
I was totally negged once! I didn't realize it until after I got home and thought about it. But it did not work on me. I think I blinked at him, said, "Okay!" and walked away. Then he came back later and was being a weird jerk again, I looked at him, said, "OKAY!" and walked away again. He was clearly pissed. …
My cousin was getting hit on hard-core at a bar one night, like, seriously the guy just wouldn't take the hint. So after a while, he looked down at his phone and she said suddenly, "Who are you talking to?" He looked really confused as she continued, "Oh my God, you're talking to another girl? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO…
I just start talking about the patriarchy and other feminist issues. That whole — I really respect myself and have standards vibe usually scares them off. Also, I try to use as many post-modernist theory words as possible, even if it doesn't linguistically make sense. You know, to look extra smart. Eyes glaze over,…
Funny list.
This might be controversial, but I think going off registry is fine within limits. When I can't afford anything on registry, rather than writing a $30 check, we'll buy a $30-$40 bottle of good wine/beer/champagne. Perhaps my friends are just the sort of people who generally don't spend that much on booze in their…
Have you considered giving a donation in their name to a charity they might like? The organization will not include the amount, but then they aren't saddled with something they don't want. People do that where I work all the time and the couple always seem to enjoy it.
We noted on our original save a date card where we were registered, but that guests could feel free to go off registry or forego giving a gift if they felt like it. We didn't want gifts to be a barrier to someone coming to celebrate with us.
If everything on the registry is too expensive for me, I typically get a gift card to where they're registered with a value that's withing my budget so they can use it toward the $1,364,599 Swarovski picture frame they registered for . . . . for instance.
Don't buy gifts off the registry. There's a reason people have them. If you don't want to get a registry item, give nothing or cash. Any gift can be made "personal" by including a really nice handwritten note, or something additional and inexpensive like a Christmas ornament or a picture frame.
Honestly, I received…
Harsh/strong reaction: oh no worries!
The thing is, we all know we have to be cautious, but we can never 100% avoid being raped no matter what precautions we take, and no one can be vigilant every single second. If a woman is raped, her decisions shouldn't even enter in to the conversation, because I'm not convinced that it will prevent others from being…
Honest question: It's never ever *ever* the victim's fault. I firmly believe that. It doesn't matter what they wore, what they did, how intoxicated they were (typical and totally faulty reasons people might blame a victim), it's *never* the rapee's fault that they got raped. (Or murdee's fault they were murdered,…
