Does the fact that they’re like 2 degrees off axis (In the 3s at least) slowly drive you insane?

Cool cool. Now the “discrete” v. “discreet” thing... ; )

In quotes, because quoting the local fire chief.

This is the gig. I would bet from the picture it was no helo available (or no LZ for the helo) for what would have otherwise been direct to a L1 trauma center, so to the local hospital to try and get stable enough for ground transport to same.

With real emergency crews < 20 seconds away, and an active fire, "rushing over" is not the same as "helping." But, yeah....seeing that instinct would've been nice nevertheless.

To give people credit, you often see "I better go help that guy / "Oh s**t that is on fire" / "Where is a fire extinguisher." Crash rescue *did* also have about a :30 response time here, probably for the best fewer other people injuring themselves or up in the way.

I....yeah. A) I was all "what do you mean caught on fire, those things shouldn't really catch on fire unless....oh...that ramp design needs some work." and B) Crash truck response time was I think totally acceptable, but interim first response from random-dudes-in-nylon-polo-shirts is not a good thing to see.

Non-iron shirt I got there was so thin I could see through both sides, showed up 6 weeks after promised date, with no communication about what the delay was until I started sending emails. Not enough confidence to risk a suit there. Liked the pants, though! Quality pants.

It also means that her competency with obscenity should be stellar, though not at the world-competitive level of an actual Chief Petty Officer. To some degree this will depend on the nature of her actual rating, but it should in any case be far beyond the general civilian understanding of swearing.

More background, PO2 Gaeta is a not-overwhelmingly-senior but certainly-doing-quite-well-for-herself-at-age 23 enlisted Navy lady, a noncommissioned officer or NCO. Meaning she probably enlisted more or less off the street at some lower rank and worked up to here....In the Army or Marines she would be a sergeant and

They do. It sort of depends what you are driving, but this is a key consideration driving, for instance, bumper specs on rescue squads.

It's a shame they only had the Scout available; the Westland Lynx was (and maybe still is) the fastest mass-produced helicopter despite its heinous ugliness.

I think he nails the point early on. Other prize-type competitions (your latitude prize, your actual x-prize) worked because the prize was sort of proportional to, or even generous for, the amount of effort / goal involved.

    Concur.

Well, it appears that the stealthy bits are sort of clip-ons; less so a whole new aircraft. Keep in mind it's a very unusual day when the Nighthawk would be more than 200 ft above the ground. In fact that's the point of many of the electronics, making it possible to ffly that way at night.

Yeah - the "white tops" were also to be a Sikorsky / Lockheed joint thing, and there'sa big new (now empty) hangar facility at the LM Owego plant where that was supposed to be happening.

Yep. Also HawkWorks is very convenient to the Lockheed-Martin (formerly IBM) facility in Owego where they take the basically empty airframes from Sikorsky and fill them up with the 'lectronics that make them special-opsy. If you're driving along either 434 or 17 past Owego, the long low brown building with the

Saw the launch in person - awesome is an overused word. BTW lthat's the last *atlantis* flight, at least 2 more shuttle flights...

My aught-6 Golf TDI has been running 40+ MPG since I bought it a year back on....(checks to make sure anonymous silouhette is on) between 50 - 100% BioD depending on the weather.
