The batteries last a super long time anyway (there’s volts out there with 400k/141k ev miles and the original battery) so I wouldn’t really be worried either way but I guess if I was going to primarily plug it in I’d want one that had as high of an ICE mileage as possible. The engines in hybrids don’t really wear out

Unfortunately yes. I was just on the Prius Prime section of priuschat this weekend and someone was looking at buying a car that was basically all ICE miles (you can check their computers to see the EV percentage)

The issue is that PHEVs are pretty heavily subsidized so people are attracted by the discounts. Fleets

A phev will indeed get similar mpg to the hybrid variant on gas alone but the ratings weigh the electric range as well, and the results are pretty optimistic

That actually touches on something else. PHEVs are even more reliant on the ability to charge daily than an EV. There aren’t many people who can use a PHEV as intended but who also couldn’t just go full on EV. A lot of this seems based in worries about DC fast charger networks but that’s been changing super fast, even

My one worry with PHEVs is that while you definitely can meet (or exceed) the near triple digit MPG ratings, in wider use people don’t seem to plug them in as often as the regulators assume. This seems to be especially true of fleet vehicles.

Meanwhile automakers can juice their fuel economy averages and keep selling

Welp! EVs are bad too. Guess its time to ban cars.

even removable roof panels like the Renegade would be pretty sweet.

They should lean into the hydrogen’s strengths vs batteries and make it a fuel cell vehicle to compete with Rivian.

yeah those make a lot of sense as a 2nd car for a two car household but unfortunately everyone thinks an EV needs 300 miles of range to be able to get milk.

They’re not even small. Every time i run into a leaf in the wild it’s kind of surreal because it’s 20% bigger than it is in my mind.

I saw they’re running $99 lease deals on the 40kwh version.

I used to spend more than that on gas!

Outside of Oslo, which is basically going car free, the typical Norwegian home is more like a duplex or a condo. They do often have off street parking but a lot of these cars get charged outside. Some underground lots have chargers too but it was somewhat rare and expensive to add from what I’ve seen.

Probably better

Isnt the renegade basically the panda 4x4 plus removable roof sections?

Everyone talks about bringing quitky french cars to the US but thats not for me

I will happily be the 3rd owner of one of these in 2035

Probably wont be able to register it in MA either. Sure you can still get away with it by maintaining an out of state LLC but for most people this is too much of a pain to dodge emissions

For people who park on the street theres two options:

I’m very concerned about the road safety. Flying during COVID isn’t great (but the infection rates for flight attendants isn’t as bad as you’d expect)

but driving long distances in the winter is probably even more dangerous , especially when you’re in a hurry to go further than normal.

I’m dreaming of a green

basically the ridgeline, except a bit lower

so like.. theoretically, could you trigger that front flip out blocker thing on the highway?

park it at uhaul. They’re dirt cheap to rent if you don’t need it that often.
