No moving parts? I’ve never heard anyone say that. Sometimes I’ll hear 1 moving part which is also pretty inaccurate but it’s still orders of magnitude less than even the simplest ice car so they’ve still got a point.

Have you ever looked into the heart of darkness that is an automatic transmission these days?

this is why we need a carbon tax. By all means keep driving what you want, but at least help us pay for the adaptation.

That seems excessive. I hope they sell a cheaper version with closer to 250 miles of range .

Yeah hats why I said they’re knocking on the door, but with a learning rate industry wide of 18% the standard prediction of 2025 seems very conservative

Also battery price reductions have consistently been ahead of predictions.

they charge extra to come out and install that now.

But it still raises revenue. I don’t think anyone’s expecting ever increasing returns from congestion charging either.

Of course modeling the revue without predicting some drop in people driving would be dumb, but there’s still going to be an increase in revenue to the city.

What are you talking about? Cigarette tax revenues were $18Bn last year while smoking rates keep falling.

heck if you’re in the Rivian Bollinger price range you can probably swing an Audi eTron, which is excellent

Lease an iPace?

Battery prices are knocking on the door of $100/kWh now, at which point it’s cheaper to build a 200 mile EV than to build a gas car, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it’d be cheaper than a plugin hybrid where you have to package both a large battery and a whole ICE powertrain.

My guess is $45k though. the $37k kona is

I’m sad they never got the fusion’s hybrid setup but I guess that’d just be taking a niche vehicle and making it even more nichy (although there aren’t many 3 row hyrbids out there)

Mid 60s. I’m not sure I’d want an early X though, those things weren’t the greatest new and I’m not sure how the falcon wing doors will hold up over time

Mid 50s gets you into a used P85D these days too. The E63 is nice but around here you’re gonna end up dropping 4k a year in fuel into basically any of those cars. Also climate change is real people, maybe it’s time to stop dailying cars that get sub 20mpg

Faraday Future is the fyre festival of cars for sure

It seems pretty stout too. Apparently it’s basically an Allison bus transmission

Now playing

I was confused about this as well. The early trucks (04) were mild hybrids but the later ones (09+) have 2 80hp motors in the transmission case. so you’d get decent bang for your buck. Apparently there’s also a 4speed auto in there for heavy load.
*this explaination is from a Chrysler eng. but at the end he says they

If you’ve already got a 5.3 probably better just swapping in the whole Tahoe hybrid engine and trans at that point. No custom parts and eventually you could hack it and add a bigger battery. Not sure what wrecked donors are going for on Copart but it can’t be much. Or you just get a silverado hybrid and move your mods

With proper gearing you should be ok. Trucks used to get around fine with 150hp or so. Especially with good torque.

Going with the volt swap makes a lot more sense to me than pure EV since a wrecked volt can be had around $3k and no one really has a solution for fast charging home built EVs.

Of course it might be
