I have dozens, maybe hundreds of favorite fanfics that I've collected over the years. Buffy, Firefly, DoctorWho, WalkingDead. Too many to share here.

JK's name may not be alongside Whedon's, Kirkman's, G.R.R.M.'s or any of the other infamous literary mass murderers of our time... but when she wants to be? She's bloody ruthless.
First book in her "Newsflesh Trilogy."
A supervillain - musical - comedy - drama. It really doesn't get much better than this.
I'm a huge fan of technology. Have been my whole life.
Dirk Pitt. Yes, the casting here doesn't hurt, but in the book series he's just as impressive. A major in the airforce, charming, witty, confident, commanding, goes out of his way to help others, and actually holds down a healthy long-term relationship in the books as opposed to the heroes who hop from one girl to…
RTD's Doctor Who vs. Moffat's Doctor Who. Gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME. Even if the person that I'm talking to is on the same side as I am (RTD), I can talk for hours about it.
I think "Wicked" turned out to be a pretty darn good prequel, but I can't think of too many more.
In terms of a believable zombie apocalypse, Mira Grant pretty much nails it with this trilogy. After reading her reasoning for the HOW, I'm more than convinced that this is a very, VERY plausible way for an actual zombie apocalypse to occur.
"They killed their mother. There's no green there."
Pure genius...
Another one of Angel being a bad-ass double agent. Here in Buffy episode "Enemies" (S3E17) pretending that he's lost his soul to get information out of the Mayor and Faith regarding the Ascension.
My apologies for the inaccuracy. The Edit function is not available to me at this time or the OP would be edited.
I do see your point: Earth saved = Happy Ending makes perfect sense. The majority of the citizens of Earth survived, so yay for them. Unfortunately the salvation of the planet and its denizens did not come without causing great pains to the two main characters, and through them, the audience at large.
How exactly does "Doomsday" have a happy ending? Yes, the void is a deus ex machina of the highest regard in that it can and does "hoover" up all of the Daleks and Cybermen, but the Doctor and Rose being ripped apart from each other was beyond painful to watch. Throw in the "Rose Tyler, I..." and you've got one of…
I'm morbidly curious...
Best of luck trying to figure out the Discordians!! :)
Vampire hunter series of course make you think of the worst cliches. But at least for the first few stories the hunter herself was pretty much a born-again virgin, worked out every day (even when she was exhausted and didn't care to) and had no desire to be around the vampires she was surrounded by day after day.
Yep. I was one of them. Especially after the first time I watched it, leaving the theater was just... disorienting. Where the hell did all of the trees go?
