Can you tell me how having a consular official from India being forced to take off her clothes and bend over for a US Marshall was in keeping with either the letter or the spirit of the law, as per Article 40 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations?

That strip searches are conducted against all detainees in 'the land of the free' is an outrageous violation of human dignity. That a strip search was conducted against a foreign consular/diplomatic official (i.e. someone who was unlikely to have smuggled a shank or a brick of crack in her pussy) is incomprehensible.

So still no answer for why it's OK for US diplomats to unilaterally break the law in the UK? Should diplomats and consular staff abide by local laws or not?

Why are any diplomats above the law?

That the U.S. has made it so difficult for someone choosing to work as a consular employee to live in a manner they are used to in their own country. Where they can pay help the subsistence wages they deserve and no more.

You're right - CCTV is exactly the same as jamming your finger in someone's cunt.

Particularly when it makes it painfully obvious that you don't give a fuck about non-wealthy people?

No, I think they're probably not supposed to jam their fingers into the cootchie of a foreign dignitary.

And yet, if she'd been hiding an object on her person that could be used as a dangerous weapon, and she used it to harm herself or others, you'd be raving about the irresponsible cops who failed to protect her.

Nobody has been able to explain why the US should be exempt from obeying local laws.

Well...not really. Either laws are obeyed or they're not?

I find nothing amusing about Americans being shocked and disgusted that a person is keeping someone as a virtual slave and then helps get an entire country, India, pissed at us because she was arrested and treated the same as any other arrestee, because she never had diplomatic immunity.

Your anger over parking tickets and a legal strip search is amusing, given she had no diplomatic immunity, was not subjected to anything outside of normal procedure (as well as being catered to before arrest by NYPD), and was basically keeping a woman a slave.

To put the obscene and outrageous amount owed by the USA to the UK - 7.2 million pounds - into perspective:

Attacking the fact a foreign diplomat/consular staff was strip searched is not the same thing as defending this woman or her alleged crimes.

A majority (two thirds) of diplomatic missions pay the congestion charge in London. The good ol' law abiding USA is unfortunately in the minority. And not only that, but it's by far the least law abiding of that minority of law breakers, wracking up the highest amounts of unpaid charges!

Who gives a shit?

According to a link someone else posted, the UK diplomatic mission in New York had a grand total of zero dollars owed in unpaid parking restrictions.

7.2 million pounds is not 'mundane'. It's a congestion charge which everyone has to pay if they drive in central London, and which American diplomats believe themselves to be above paying. 7.2 million pounds is a significant figure. What do you think would happen to a British person who refused to pay the

According to that link, the UK diplomatic presence in the US has no violations. Conversely, the US presence in the UK owes 7.2 million pounds, by far the largest amount owed by a single state.
