Man I feel you - AND my office is super small (7 people total). The thing is, as wack and conservative as my coworkers/bosses are, they are also very nice in-person. Like, excluding politics, they would be some of the nicest, most supportive people I know. It’s weird.

My own annoyance take is that, basically what Alexie found interesting about this work is that it was an Asian guy writing (surprise) like a white guy. So basically (and I know I am generalizing, but still) the underlying presumption is that Asian writers are only interesting when writing like white people.

Self-checkouts are good for one thing - when you have a good amount of change and want/need to pay for some amount of groceries with an embarrassing amount of pennies.*

Actually, it’s more pathetic than that - he was basically telling her to cover more of his share (leaving A out of it).
