Has anyone read "The Drama Of The Gifted Child?" Despite the special snowflake title, it's actually a book about child abuse. A huge chunk of it talks about corporal punishment and how lots of people who got spanked badly as a child sadly grow up COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS to the fact that they are fucked up in terms of it.

Oh man I was really scared reading this title until I saw that it was just NYC. Crisis averted.

I bought a new SSD recently (the Samsung Evo 840 that Wirecutter recommended), and I got the 500 GB size. I set it up no problem, enabled Trim, etc. My problem is - I don't see any difference to my Macbook Pro mind 2010. It's still laggy when opening some programs/switching back and forth and I haven't seen any

Wait - this is really important. HOW DO YOU PLAY THEM ALL AT ONCE?! (Besides just clicking them all)

Uh, I sing to my pet even when people are around.

Whoa whoa whoa....stop. Against FEMALE SUFFRAGE?! Okay, now she's just, what, almost a century behind the times??

A bit of what goddessoftransitory said, a bit of them hating themselves/not happy with themselves. Looking back, they might have both been really depressed - my mom slept almost all the time and hated/was scared of the world and my dad would fly into rages (as men usually manifest desperation).

I recently read this book and loved it! I feel like a lot of finance books/blogs are really shaming "You didn't do XYZ? You idiot!" But it goes deeper than that. Our attitudes about money really do inform how we use it and how we interact with it. For instance, I grew up poor and for most of my life had this "I'm

Usually I feel bad because they didn't always used to be horrible. Sure, the possibility was lurking, but many of them were people who were great people who ended up succumbing to asshole levels due to a variety of factors. I mourn a lot for the people they could have been, since they were important in my life and

Maybe not immediately, but it helps. I know someone who used to be extremely obese. He started with walking because that's what his body could handle. Of course, he also completely changed his diet, which helped speed things up. The slow walking at first definitely helped him lose enough weight so he could start more

How is "jogging slowly" on the treadmill wrong? If you're seriously unfit, it is completely unrealistic and unsustainable for them to all of a sudden run a marathon or something, not to mention joint injury and such. There's nothing wrong with slowly easing into exercise, and it'll probably last longer if it's

Schwab. Schwab Checking Account reimburses you for all ATM fees, up to $200 a month. It's tied to a Schwab Brokerage Account, but you don't have to use it (I haven't). Also they give you free checks :)

TED talks are usual good. TEDx talks, however, are the devil.

It's likely not the same HPV. The vaccine only covers 4 of the most common cervical cancer causing strains.

I have never seen anyone black at these dances, except this one time (and it might have been blues, which is different because no one cares how you dress). It's weird and uncomfortable but also something I'm smh/laughing about as I think about how many more people I'll alienate if I bring that up during a dance.

People will be able to tell. Most of these "Fedora Unpleasants" wear the cloth ones inside, and also a lot of it is the general demeanor/personality.

Sigh I like swing dancing, because I think partner dancing/social dancing is a fun social thing to do and I wish there was more of that.

I immediately scrolled down to say this! That and what lunchcoma said - it's always either "purple" or "green." WHAT'S WRONG WITH BLUE, RACISTS

Omg, Veggie Tales. This is a throwback

Have you thought about getting an iTouch or something instead? If you live in a free Wi-Fi heavy area it's pretty much like a smartphone. Before I had my smartphone and I was in college (Wi-Fi everywhere), I got one and it was immensely helpful. Since it's an iTouch, it doesn't really matter for you to get THE
