Language does evolve over time. Just look at middle english vs. today. All it takes is enough people to agree on something and, given time, it is. Which is why LOL will be considered a word someday.

I've seen some very nice photos taken by people I know who have not post processed them.

I don't mind companies making money off of their creations. I do think that they open themselves up to competition from the outside if they make things too rigid. But I do think that, at least in the short term, the writing is on the wall.
