Way back when, I took my 10 year old nephew to this movie...probably should not have done that. Not exactly a kids film.
I doubt very much that Lucas is going to use any books, comics or other 3rd party written spin off storylines or characters. He is still the story generator (if not the scriptwriter) and he's going to invent his own. My $0.02.
On a complete side note, my opinion of Brian Austin Green went way, way, way up during the Sarah Conner Chronicles. He was pretty damned awesome in that. He deserves more action lead roles.

If I had to guess you will have Han and Leia's son (daughter?) as the main character who is a young powerful Jedi with a rebellious spirit. You will have old Jedi master Luke. And some new dark Sith threat rising.
