I've recently seen an influx in .webm formats - something akin to a Youtube/gif hybrid. I'm not sure what the advantages of it are, whether it's possible to embed it seamlessly like a .gif, but it sure is convenient.

We have HTML5 representations of GIFS that load way fast and compare substantially less in size.

I thought webm was going to be the way of the future and replace gifs.
