Squicks me out too. That said, it turns out the birth defect risk is a lot lower than popular wisdom makes it out to be. http://www.sciencemediacentre.co.nz/2013/07/04/mar…

It's legal in all of Canada (marriage is federally regulated; that's why our marriage equality law was immediately operative across the country, as well). It's not that common, but I've known 2 couples who were first cousins. The part that bothers me isn't the consanguinity, but the closeness of the cousin…
I have loved him since he was Tim Canterbury. Swoooon.
I wonder if the girls had seen this episode of Supernatural, in which a member of the "Ghost Facers" admits he made up "thin man" after some guys start killing people while pretending to be the thin man: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt318287…
I've seen comments in other places wherein people say they wish the parents had been as accepting of Ryland's deafness as they are of his being a boy. As a hearing parent of hearing impaired kids, with deaf and CODA family members, it's something I'm on the edge of but not really in. Before we really knew the degree…
So, fantastic subversions of fairy tales? Snow White as "Snow, Glass, Apples". Neil Gaiman. http://thedreaming.holycow.com/1999/10/10/sno… I would love to see his Sleeping Beauty.
ME TOO!!
No worries, rant on! As a non-tattooed person who loves tattoos, I admire other peoples' from afar. If I am directly interacting with someone already, I might say "I really like your tattoo", or "that's a beautiful [whatever it's of]". Same with interesting piercings. But I get that tattoos are for the people who get…
I clicked to check where in Peru they were (Lima, I guess - not like there's anywhere else here they're going to play), and now I can't figure out how to turn the stupid video off. Because I'm old. But not as old as my younger-than-me husband, who asked our eldest tonight, "what's One Direction?"
I just saw this comment now - very surprised by it, since I lived in Vancouver for 14 years and I'm struggling to think of having been street harassed there. My trans friends and Asian friends have experienced a lot more than I have as a white cis woman. So ... maybe different neighbourhoods/bubbles? I certainly got a…
Yeah, I always wonder about this because I hear about them setting off the detector, but I'm a large busted white woman who wears exclusively underwire bras and I never set off the metal detector. And I fly lots, domestic (in Canada) and international.
I was raised UCC, and although I consider myself a culturally Christian atheist, I'm seriously considering joining a congregation when we move back to Canada. As I get older, I realize just how much of my cultural identity includes the United Church.
37?! Why 37? I am just over the hill and didn't even realize it.
That is amazing.
Wow, mom - that's harsh. I realized when I was about 20 that my grandmother and her sister have very similar features and wrinkles, but even though my grandmother was the beauty, my great aunt's face is prettier now because she is the happy one who laughs and jokes while my grandmother has spent a lifetime expressing…
I would reply to the OP, but I don't want to feed the ... troll? Whatever they are. Anyway - their post produced my only snort-laugh of the day (so far. Because long weekend and wine)
Hm. Well, I'm by far the more extroverted of the two of us, and he is definitely the cuddler. He's also the furnace. And way bigger than me, and tends to twitch violently as he falls asleep (I've gotten a fat lip on occasion). And he usually goes to bed and wakes up an hour before I do because of his insane work…
That is amazing!
Thanks!
I found out yesterday that my grandmother is dying. She is 90, and frail, so it doesn't come as a huge surprise. But I live on another continent and we were really close, and she's my last living grandparent, and this news comes on the tail of a week of getting up at 5 every morning and having international guests…
