I completely get your point that arguing about term usage is not helpful to your work - and your work is good and important work. Arguing about term usage is my work, at least in part (I'm a lawyer), so it may be fair to say that our different perspectives align with the professional lens through which we see the

Yay! I'm always happy to find someone else who understands my frustration with this :)

The thing is, vagina wasn't the better known term - not significantly - until Eve Ensler came out with the Vagina Monologues. I found it interesting that Harriet Lerner, whom I'd never read until I clicked the link in this thread, had the same reaction to the VM as I did. My issue would likely be a similar one if

Yes, this! Every time this question comes up I end up pulling out a blog post I wrote a couple of years ago, explaining why I'm not a fan of using "vagina" as a catch all for female genitalia: http://themelaniac.blogspot.com/2012/09/ceci-n…

I realize that I'm coming late to the discussion on this, but if you are interested in why subbing the word "vagina" for "vulva" irks, this is the essay I wrote on the issue some time ago: http://themelaniac.blogspot.com/2012/09/ceci-n…

I completely agree. That's why I didn't respond directly to him, but instead to the poster he had spoken to. Even from trolls, comments like that can be deeply harmful.

But, but .... alcohol is a drug! Just one drug! All the drinks are just different ways to consume that one drug!

There's nothing quite like someone who says they work in mental health and have had patients suicide telling you that you should kill yourself, huh? As someone who has lost people to suicide, including one who hanged himself, I'm really sorry TheAdlerian said that to you. You don't deserve that kind of aggression.

I love him. In, as my brother once said, "a friendly, non-sexual manner". I want to be girl Watson to his Sherlock

May his death be quick and painless. Emphasis on the quick. The sooner he is gone and forgotten, except as an example of what not to be, the better. The less attention we pay to this hate-spewing, soul-sick ass - in death or in life - the better.

Some school divisions in Canada have refused children who aren't vaccinated.

Yeah, I don't want to see this. I didn't watch the first video that went around, and I'm very confused by how excited people are getting about watching perfect strangers kiss :/

Woman doesn't sound weird to me. Regional/generational/experiential difference?

I don't understand the upset about the use of the word "witch" in this context, at all. I don't consider it shocking or horrible - even if I thought it had a negative connotation, which I don't, it is pretty tame compared to some of the legitimately shocking and horrible stuff that gets posted here.

I was just coming here to say...

Husband's uncle: "And how's Mrs. Husband's Surname doing today?"

I dunno, but I'm sure whatever it was it had to do with his memory of me 20 years ago (and we didn't know each other that well), not me now. So, projection?

Last week I posted a throwback Thursday pic of me with some friends from 20 years ago, which resulted in a lot of people sharing pictures from the same time, and then on Saturday a week ago I got a FB message from a friend, with whom I spent 1 night right around that time, telling me he'd had a really vivid dream

For International Women's Day I got called by my husband's name (no hate or judgment for those who take their spouses' names, it's just not my name!), shopped, cooked, cleaned, and started to feel a little hemmed in. Then I got my sons to wash the dishes, and told them about IWD, and got an extremely validating email

"Because grown ups don't do that" - exactly. I've actually told my kids, when one of them has hit the other, that when I'm angry or frustrated with them I feel like hitting them - sometimes I really want to hit them - but I don't because I have learned control my anger and my actions, and that that control is what we
