Living in Germany too, for me the whole geo-blocking and selling streaming/DVD licenses to different companies in different countries is a much bigger issue. I prefer watching anime in a language that I am able to understand, but because only a fraction of the anime that gets an english dub also gets a german one,

I doubt that it was the case here, but there are ways an attacker could do lasting damage to a computer, especially if you are executing the code for him. Hardware manufacturers are able to provide executables that update your BIOS from your OS, so with the right knowledge and reverse engineering skills an attacker

I had to scroll way too far for this. Here, have a remix

There’s no trophy or achievement system.

Throwing Pokemon into a meat grinder? What’s wrong with you?

In this case Niantic can’t really do much about it because it is Unity’s fault.

On PC and most consoles you have at least the option to backup your saves on an external storage device. On smartphones the situation is way worse. Many mobile games don’t give you the option to export your saves or upload them into the cloud. Even worse, most people tend to replace their current phone with a new one

Ingress already has Android Wear support so Niantic definitely knows how to develop for Wear devices. I am pretty sure that they will support Wear too, they just can’t tell you that on stage during an Apple event.

When did Nintendo say that? As far as I know Nintendo isn’t attending TGS. They aren’t even listed as exhibitors on TGS’ website.

The fix will most likely be applied on server side. The main issue here is not that the app allowed you to select an egg but that the servers accepted the corresponding request as valid. Just fixing the app wouldn’t solve the issue because attackers could still use an unofficial api to send a request with an egg to

But do they also deliver to broom closets?

I couldn’t find an article/post that states that the operators of Pokevision received a cease and desist letter. If you know more than I do feel free to share a link ;)

I am still not convinced that Niantic forced Pokevision to shut down with legal measurements. If the operators of the Pokevision site would have recieved a cease and desist letter, I would have expected that the entire site would be gone. Instead just the map part is deactivated, but the site itself is still there.

I am not even sure if they asked them to shut it down. Some users in the Pokemon Go Dev reddit reported that Niantic started to block requests that come from servers of cloud service provides like Amazon Web Services (AWS). It is also possible that they started blocking all requests that came from the service provider

I doubt that the traffic generated by Pokevision alone would have been a problem. The bigger issue is the traffic that is generated by all different scanners and bots combined. Pokevision didn’t stop because Niantic wanted Pokevision to be gone specifically, but because they made some changes to their API and servers

I am not sure if it was Niantics goal to specifically shut down services like Pokevision or if it is just a result of them trying to get the API usage back under control. On Friday they enabled a new request throttling to limit the amount of requests someone could send to the servers in a certain timespan (https://fevg

I doubt that there will be any negative consequences for video games in Germany. Interior minister de Maizière was criticized across all media for his comment, that “no reasonable person can deny, that the unbearable amount of violent video games on the internet has harmful effects on the development of teenagers”. I
