Except that in each of the cases you mention there'd be movement within the stalls so it would be opaque. At that point it wouldn't be any different than a normal stall that you hear the same activity coming from. I guess it makes discovering the victim slightly easier, but in most cases toilets are used somewhat

If you really want to escape reality you should play Single-Player games, there's 100% less douche-canoes in SP games I hear.

Yes, but your initial post specifically said that if I'm not playing with a group of friends, I'm exposing myself to hateful and bigoted speech because I enjoy it.

I'm seeing a lot of comments that basically say "well, you can just mute players who spew offensive stuff." While that's true from a feature standpoint for a lot of games, I really don't like the idea that the people who aren't jerks have to self-segregate and take responsibility/consequences for others' poor

I knew this comment would attract misguided responses/trolls, but the truth is that gringo is not exclusively a derogatory term. I grew up in an area with a large Hispanic population, I being in the minority, and only on few occasions felt like the word was said with hate.
Even if it was as you seem to believe

PTSD from repeated verbal abuse, which could come from any number of sources. The idea that people can't be hurt by words is outdated and wrong - words can wound, and they can leave permanent emotional scarring, especially in younger, still emotionally developing people.

Dude, that's the problem. We can't just roll over and take it. Where do you draw the line? Why am I making concessions on game play because others can't be decent and respectable? So we just get bullied out of general chat? I don't accommodate assholes.

Thank you. People don't seem to understand that taking the jaded, cynical, "nothing I can do," attitude, is just as bad. Being complacent is not not choosing a side.

Of course! Obviously groups that routinely get targeted both online and in reality should just suck it up and deal because it's too much to ask people not be complete assholes! And clearly slurs that have a history of violence and murder behind them are the same as calling someone an asshole or fucker!

I get subjected to sexist comments in real life. As a relatively attractive woman in a STEM field, it's the background radiation of my life.

So blacks, gays, women, Jews, etc. should carry the burden of avoiding being called niggers, faggots, cunts and kikes because straight white guys can't act civilized?

Okay, but in my case...I don't have any RL friend who play multiplayer matches. So that's out. I could play with 'nice people I meet online'...but how am I meeting them if I mute everyone? So my choice is to play completely silent and solitary, which isn't much fun. Or take the risk and wait until they shows

Always so annoyed when people say something along the lines of 'use mute'. That isn't the point. It would be like telling someone to move to San Francisco if they're fed up with rampant homophobia, or, going back further, to go north if you don't want to deal with blatant racism.

The "just mute them" response is horrible. It's saying to not get involved when someone's talking simply to not have to deal with. It can also throw your game off. I can't mute people in Dota 2 because I'll miss out on information relative to the game. If someone says, "Watch out top," three other people aren't

Because they shouldn't have to?

Yeah, it ruins a game for me. I play games to ESCAPE reality (which is full of assholes), not be subjected to the rants of racist morons. If that's what I wanted I'd just talk to a politician or police officer.

I'm with you on that. I used to like playing FPS, but the whole anonymous voice-chat-bigotry truly ruined the experience.

So now we live in a world where it's OK to be an asshole because if your douchebaggery is a problem for someone, they're just being overly sensitive?

I'm looking forward to it, no matter how long it takes. Considering the care they've taken with the Witcher games, if it means waiting longer for a far superior product, it's well worth it. There are very few games I find myself looking forward to right now.... Soma, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. I can't even think

Unlike Ubisoft, Projekt has a quality track record with their games. If they say we're taking a few months to make sure the game is up to par, then hey, by all means.

I think more companies, [Russell Peters voice] not gonna mention names- but I think you might know them very weeeelllll, could stand to do this instead
