The hips on the current generation are absolutely stunning in person, and this car seems to have lost that beauty (the addition of the cut line, which Im sure was done to save money, doesn't help either.

I like what’s happening at the front, but I have to say it looks a little too “styled” for my tastes. There’s a lot of stuff going on. The current gen to me is a lot cleaner, and dare I say, timeless?

You should be able to find a nice 993 for under 40k. Not some uber-low miler, or perhaps not an S, but I've seen plenty good examples in the mid 30s out there. Where are you looking?
