I'm not surprised at the depth added. On the audio commentaries on the Season 4 Blu-Ray, Martin noted that the TV version of Shae was a deeper and more complex character he wrote and how that changed things. Ditto for how they change things but he understands it.

when the TV show is more streamlined and tells the story better than the books?? I recommend that people watch the show vs reading the books. The books past #3 get really unfocused.
