upstate and the surrounding area(nh vt me and western ma) are great places to find projects like this. there is one reason someone would park this. RUST. check the floorpans and they are probably gone

You showing this picture, as cool as it is, reinforces comments by others that the car is best left unrestored. Looks way better with damage.
I've lusted over that car for years, It's perfect as-is. Why restore something when it's damage is part of what gives it historical value?
I agree. A classic race car with its original battle scars is so much better than a perfectly polished reconstructed one. Plus, battle scars look so much more appropriate on a rally car.
Right?
Wait a minute, the lead photo is how it looks now? I wouldn't touch it, other than the mechanical bits. Every dent, scratch and crease is a story.
Those mud flaps are fantastic.
Didn't they leave it as-is from when it completed it's last race (hence the damage on the front)? It almost seems worse to restore it now.
Some people just hate nostalgia, or have horrible repressed memories of getting hit by ice cream trucks, or something.
Euro's ? Your too damn young for nostalgia !!!
Obligatory
My first guess was the Wankel powered Citroën M35
Soviet cars do not rust. Soviet cars are superior to decadent western capitalist pig cars.
(INsert random joke about soviet knockoffs)(followed by misinformed comment about Putin vs. Obama.)(followed by....in soviet russia joke.)(finishing off with mandatory "thanks Obama")
Use it as a hammer?
Now what am I supposed to do with this erection?
Oh gross. Looks like a Range Rover and a Ford Flex had an ugly kid.
God I hope I'm the first one to think of this.....
Problem Solved, buy late 80's and 70's cars:
