@Zoot: Well if we are going to point out old things, how about those BOOKS?

Judging from the comments these articles are generating, the readership of Giz in general seems to dislike Intellectual Ventures intensely. Let's stop giving them free press. It is free right? This isn't a long paid advertisement?

@Zalethon: If you want to think there is an as-of-yet undiscovered effect of marijuana that is more harmful than killing neuronal brain cells, be my guest. I'm saying case closed on this issue and moving on.

@Alduron: Personally, you didn't even do this so I'd save the criticism.

@TechHaze: That is a good, non-stupid question. The gasses dissolved in water are, at that depth, in the same ratio that they are in the air. Perhaps that may change at super depth but at anything within 100 ft of the surface it will hold true.

@ShadRS: Before people with JetSki's started stirring up the sediment, Lake Tahoe was one of the clearest bodies of water on the planet.

@EBone: I wish I could negative heart you for your lack of awesomeness.

@TechHaze: The partial pressure of one gas is independent of other gasses, meaning that, over time, the balance of gasses would be the same as that found in the water.

@Casse: I'm not the expert you are looking for, but it seems like the nut of the issue is "reasonable expectation of privacy". I think simply putting up a "no trespassing, private property" sign would be all it takes for a citizen to have a reasonable expectation that no law enforcement will enter without a warrant.

Judging from the comments, if there was a design principle behind the button icons, it was lost on me and most everyone else.

As someone who's worked in a lab for nearly two decades now, the last thing I want to hear is how old and cheap the lab equipment is. It is often more efficient to just get new gear than waste a few salary days finding and negotiating for cheaper used gear.

@Zalethon: The point about nothing being indisputable in science is nonsense. If you are going to say that, you are in essence saying that no one even knows anything. This is foolish basic philosophy. Science has a very rigorous system of hypothesis, theory, and law that deals directly with this issue.

@19XX: Just because there are two sides does not mean the sides are equally right. Dig around a little and you'll see that cigarette smoke is far worse than marijuana and that people who smoke cigs are exposed to more smoke in general.

@Zalethon: Did you even read these comments? Common sense doesn't get you far in science. Smoke is made of a few things: particulates, tar, and constituents unique to the substance burned. Lungs are good at clearing particulates unless they are oddly long and pointy like asbestos. Tar seems bad but it isn't the

"The tenants [had] been told by the building's owner ... that the roof could not support a single human's body weight."

@Paul Jasper: Your interpretation of the function of the brain ignores many of the important functions of the brain that distinguish it from a computer. Applying the same stimulus does not always wield the same response from neurons so there is a lot of noise and error checking. The result of this process is
