He’s gone so far as to plagiarize himself in the trailer even. The “grown man gets covered in semen in the semen storage room of a fertility clinic” was used in Family Guy more than a decade ago.

That might be the case in visual art, but in music samples are often unrecognizable. There are samples from 20+ years ago when the law wasn’t so clear that still haven’t been identified. Maybe it’s just CYA policy to some extent, but even when the sample is used in a way that is drastically different from the original…
I feel like I’ve read before that Ohio has historically had more serial killers than many other states as well, so their reluctance to proactively address that possibility is especially baffling.
Not a lawyer, but in music you have to clear a sample ahead of time if you’re going to use it commercially. As an example, rappers don’t get in trouble for using tons of samples on mixtapes they don’t actually sell. But if they perform those songs in concert they might get sued.
I actually disagree with some of the judge’s ruling, which is my point. Here’s a relevant excerpt:
I went to high school in Mexico, MO. Martin Luther King Drive is not much better.
The judge made the right call, though I have conflicting feelings about this in general. On one hand I don’t really think the juror lied. I don’t think he “forgot” either, which seems to just be the defense willfully misconstruing what happened. I also generally think that in an attempt to eliminate “bias” what jury…
One point of contention: Roof’s manifesto wasn’t batshit. It was absolutely morally and intellectually wrong and super racist. But it had logical flow and most of his points were rooted in social norms. Those norms may be coded when they pop up in the everyday, or they may not pop up in mixed companies, but a lot of…
A conservative majority SCOTUS crippled the Voting Rights Act, probably doesn’t happen with a liberal majority.
I don’t know why I’m even bothering but...
Louisiana’s law actually does specifically provide that someone who has been sentenced to death gets an Atkins hearing if they can provide a reasonable basis to an argument for why they have a mental impairment. Before it got to SCOTUS it was ruled that he shouldn’t even get a hearing, which was absurd given his…
Not a lawyer, but I’ve read this case’s opinion and dissent in full:
The rest of the Justices don’t care about what the killer did because they’re not supposed to. It is in no way their job to rule on what Brumfield did. Making an emotional argument like Thomas did calls the impartiality of his arguments on the actual material issues into question. If he can’t show enough restraint to…
It really doesn’t belie the defendant’s argument as it relates to this SCOTUS review though. The disadvantaged backgrounds angle was completely irrelevant. The issues were 1) did the state mess up by denying him an Atkins hearing to see if he was mentally retarded (the choice of the word retarded is the courts’, not…
James is a consensus top-two player of all time and probably pretty safe to say a top five offensive player of all time. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Blatt better known for the defensive side of the ball? Who is going to know better what will work when the entire offense is literally James? Blatt has coached…
What you’re missing here is that the Cavs literally didn’t have any other competent offensive players. Their second best offensive player was Timofey Mozgov (whose points largely came from assists from James and ORBs of James’ shots). Who was their third best offensive player? JR Smith wasn’t making shots even when he…
Basically this. You can’t make the government say something.
This clears up a lot for me. I’d always heard they took place between II and Super and that never really made much sense to me.
So, on one hand I think a game set in the Metroid universe not starring Samus could be really, really interesting. But on the other hand, nothing about the art direction or character design of this title feels very much like Metroid to me, and it doesn’t seem like this really has much focus on story at all.
I don’t know why people disliked it so much. In terms of content it was pretty similar to most Nintendo Directs, and I thought it was a lot of fun.
