Context matters. "Contemporary diversity" or, how this modern/progressive/Western society defines the term, is a different animal and carries with it a LOT more meaning than "diversity" did 70 years ago. Authors in England (and elsewhere) 70 years ago did not exist in a culture that espoused diversity as a necessity. There was no cultural mandate to empower women, or to elevate them as equals to men, etc. That comes later. And, while this is a cute poem, I would not rank it as the "best science poem" of the month. It's quite "soft" and whimsical/surreal. Check out Strangehorizons.com and sfpoetry.com for some "hard science" poetry.
