As a fellow trans person, I expect she conferred with her daughter about the manner in which she was comfortable as being referred to in the article, given the thoughtfulness she’s acted with throughout her daughter’s transition.

I will say that that has been one of the most ... troublesome is not the right word ... uncomfortable? Hard to remember? (something) ... about having a trans daughter.
Shaheen and her sister have thee BEST MOM EVAH!!!
But through exploring some of his feelings and looking back at his emotions, he realized that he was actually supposed to be a girl, and just felt like his body didn’t match how he felt inside. She asked me to stop calling her Shahrick, as she preferred Shaheen—a gender-neutral name in our culture like Chris or…
Thank you for being such a good mom!
Thank you for sharing your story, and the best to your daughter.
That’s what Women on Web used to do back when they were called “Women on Waves”. They’d set up boats in international waters under a friendly national flag, and provide abortions to women in countries where they were outlawed (nowadays they covertly send pills from the Netherlands).
I just can’t *wait* for true gender equality in the movies, when Chalumet-type male actors are paired as the love interest with grand dames hovering around their mid-50s! Looking at YOU Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise, McConaughey, any iteration of a James Bond actor, etc.
Heck yes. I desperately want them to do a Bram Stoker’s Dracula episode.
I think Jennifer Lawrence was even less believable in “American Hustle.”
I was just listening to a podcast about this movie today. I need to rewatch it, it’s really such a gem.
... JLaw is supposed to be 40-something in Silver Linings Playbook?
Reminds me of the scene in The First Wives Club where Goldie Hawn finds out she’s playing Elizabeth Berkley’s mother and gives a martini fueled rant at a fancy bar.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. People frequently criticize Forrest Gump because Sally Field is less than 10 years older than Tom Hanks. But Sally Field might even be a little old to play young Forrest’s mom. And clearly, Tom Hanks was way too old to play Forrest for most of the movie. Maybe Hanks was too old…
As a childless woman in my 30s, I yell “I’m the MOTHER?!” all the time, Jenna perfectly captured a real feeling there. Last time I yelled this was realizing that Amy Smart, playing the mom in Stargirl, was wearing the same Anthropologie shirt that I was wearing while watching.
Nah, Smith is on the road to being Bruce Willis at this point I think it’s fair to say. Outside Aladdin his career hasn’t been in the best shape for a few years now.
The guy’s pretty much the last “movie star” at this point.
It’s probably more the fact those films are only getting made because he’s in them.
This stuff always makes me think of the time Jenna on 30 Rock was learning teen lines for Gossip Girl. Then she found out she was really going to be playing the dying grandmother.
Fun fact: Jennifer Lawrence was playing 40-something female characters in Silver Linings Playbook and Joy when she was in her 20s.
