Add olive oil to the water with salt for pasta, learn to chop onions, then apply to other vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes and that vinaigrette recipe is way too oily. I personally prefer to start with a small amount of oil, then increase to taste....but I also add other things to complete it.

This is also a good way for a beginner to get into shooting with a DSLR and learn their way around a system without breaking the bank.
