A light-up Tron suit isn’t going to save me from the guy who makes a rolling stop at an intersection where parked cars clearly obscure his view of pedestrians.

struggling drivers, as at least six have committed suicide in recent months after falling into debt. Now, a new study from the city’s taxi commission is offering one potential policy change, calling for a $17.22 minimum wage for all drivers who earn a living from ride-hailing companies like Uber and Lyft.

Seems to me to be the number 1 “tool” used by those spreading fake news. Or even maybe not totally fake news, but at the least, biased “only 1 side of the story” reporting backed up by the “facts” of correlation.

  1. Sign up for Uber

I’ve also noticed this with students waiting for the bus. In the winter, it is still pitch black outside when I’m driving to work and kids are waiting for the bus. And to add on to that, snowbanks make is so they can’t stand in the grass like they normally would. So you have people standing nearly in the middle of a

Ah, the “science” involved with assuming correlation necessarily implies causation... right.

Ah yes, I was just plowing a field with my... Porsche Macan.

The article makes a point to explain SUVs are specifically correlated to the increase. So you’d need to specifically argue SUV drivers are more likely to be distracted, which is possible.

“I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say I know better than the science”

And distracted walking.  I remember in 2010/2011 timeframe, one of my friends got internet on his phone, and was one of the first I knew personally with it.  2009 was before widespread “connectivity”.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say distracted driving is probably more of a cause than the vehicle being driven.

Also if you are a pedestrian at night wear something other than all black! I was driving a surface street at Midnight over the weekend and some guy dressed in all black waiting on the bus decided he wanted to wait in the road, I saw him at the last second a swerved around him but scared me stupid!

I’m 100% with you. Busch didn’t give him a light love tap, he straight up hit him and pushed him for a brief moment around the corner. It made it somewhat more exciting but it was still bullshit. Honestly reminded me of Dale back in the day. The whole “you tapped me so I’m going to fucking rail you” mentality.

I believe this time, it was... Busch-league nonsense.

Counterpoint: This is why people say NASCAR is a dumb hick sport and at least in this narrow context they’re right. Contact and collisions are a part of racing but deliberately wrecking or spinning another car is bush league nonsense. That said I can live with it if people are willing to be honest about it.

Well, now do it with a luxury interior and make it more comfortable inside.... and keep it as fast....

They are abandoning diesel altogether. Sometimes the simple fix is the right fix.

Hey engineers! How can we pass those diesel emission tests... any ideas?

The same could be said for “fuel injection,”turbocharged” or “grounded to the ground.”

“Grand Touring Homologated” is also completely meaningless to quite a lot of people. The average person not that interested in cars probably couldn’t even tell you what GT stood for.
