It would make the other characters irrelevant. They’re here all along, from the beginning. Then, all of a sudden “Hai guyz, I’m female Link!” You can even look at Linkle (Ugh, that makes my skin itch) and see that’s straight pandering. They were so lazy with it that they couldn’t even give this character a decent…
Why, though? Fundamentally, why DO we want to make decisions on someone else’s work? It’s like saying “Oh, Harry Potter was a great idea - but Hermione should’ve been the hero.” No, it doesn’t work that way.

Not at all. These characters exist. Why mop them away? How about, oh, I dunno, have Zelda being a playable character in one of the games? Or Impa, protecting Zelda along her quest, ala Impa? It’s not splitting hairs.
Why are the goddesses... goddesses, and not gods? Why is Zelda female? Link male? Ganon male? Why is Impa, Zelda’s protector and guide through many of the games, female?

This and Chrono Trigger are my two favorite games of all time. I play them once a year. Never gets old. FFVI is the best one of the bunch, obviously.
