@ThaHellYouWant: Yes, RAWs are quite large: it's simply untouched sensor data. On a point and shoot, the camera converts that data internally to .jpg. On a DSLR, it's your job to convert it, but it gives you *much* more flexibility.
@ThaHellYouWant: A D700 is a full-frame dSLR. $$$ indeed. The sensor is about 35mm big, and the pictures a most probably shot in RAW and edited using either Lightroom or Aperture.
