@tucker augie'ben'doggy: Hmm... I've only seen them installed with the phone company's tv service, which runs off the phone lines. Must work differently with other cable providers. I know for sure I can't hook TIVO up nicely to my UltimateTV service.

@tucker augie'ben'doggy: I never understood how having a TIVO as a secondary box to the cable providers HD box could ever be better than an all-in-one DVR from the service provider. Who wants to deal with IR blasters and multiple guides?

I'm going to have to side with common decency on this one. Perhaps they need to evaluate this payment service and maybe offer a one-time fee in case of emergencies. Maybe it's $10,000 if you don't pay the fee and you need their service. Maybe it's more?

@bdinger: I watched a friend who never used antivirus or run updates because "he knows what he's clicking" become the victim of a nice browser/add/javascript virus. It was the best thing I've ever seen, panicked and clicking all of the popup windows and installers that were running.
