Product designer. I do initial consult meetings for free. I’m amazed by how many clients are shocked when I tell them I’ll be charging them to do the actual project. It’s doubly funny because they’re usually contracting me to develop something that they can...ya know, sell for money. Are...are you serious?

One of my personal policies is that I never threaten to sue someone. You will never hear me say that “I’m taking you to court”. You just get served, because I’ve already determined I can’t do business with you and am past the point of negotiating one on one. And it doesn’t take that much effort :)

Similar thing with musicians. As soon as a band starts getting recognized and making some money, they become a sellout. What I never understood is why everyone seems to not want their favorite artist to make any money for all of their hard work and actually succeed at their craft.
