Ocarina of Time came out, albeit at the end of the year. Got an N64 for christmas that year and OoT and Mario 64 were my first two games. That was my first console.

The 3DS Lite will actually just be called the 2DS. To be smaller, it will sacrifice the 3D tech, and go for the purely 2D screen sans slider.
